Special Applications

ConservArt custom designs and fabricates display frames and cases for a variety of unusual uses and applications.

In vessels, or vehicles used for transportation, the safety and security of passengers are of paramount importance. Frames and displays may become a source of injury in case of sudden or unpredictable movement, impact or breakage. Additionally, display frames and their contents have to maintain their physical integrity when exposed to continuous shock and vibration, uncontrolled, wide variation of temperature and humidity.

ConservArt has developed systems and methods of framing, that not only conform to their surroundings, provide an esthetically pleasing presentation but also possess the needed mechanical integrity in these critical applications.

For use aboard yachts and passenger ship cabins, ConservArt uses the technology described above. Galvanic action of dissimilar metals in high humidity salt air environments is avoided by appropriate engineering and fabrication methods.

ConservArt has solutions for securely displaying art in public spaces, rotating corporate art collections, munumental scale signage and many other unusual applications.

In 1989 ConservArt was chosen to supply the framing for VIA Rail Canada's major refitting program of their passenger trains. All decorative pictures and route maps were designed, engineered and manufactured in house. In addition to designing and fabricating the frames for all the rail cars renovated during the HEP conversion project, ConservArt was contracted to engineer a six time-zone clock for use in their passenger rail cars (see photo below). The six time-zone clock was engineered and custom fabricated by ConservArt to VIA Rail specifications to operate independently from the power supply of the rail cars. They also had to withstand extended exposure to Canadian winter temperatures and condensing humidity levels when the rail car was uncoupled and sitting on a siding. Additionally, the timepieces needed to maintain accurate timekeeping and provide a practical way of adjustment for Daylight Saving Time changes.

Shock and Vibration

All our products had to conform to stringent shock and vibration criteria, pass high heat and humidity and subsequent deep freeze trials, without condensation and had to be rust and corrosion proof.

The tests were conducted by an independent testing laboratory and were certified by VIA engineers. This program consisted of several thousand units and we are still active suppliers of spare parts for the program.

Framed picture mounted on the accelerometer test bench at the laboratories of the Centre Recherche Industriel du Quebec, where the shock & vibration tests were conducted on behalf of VIA Rail.

Contract Framing

ConservArt continues to supply wall decor and contract framing services to a variety of clients and all levels of Government.

Corporate and professional office decor is thoughtfully designed to project and amplify the desired corporate image and create a comfortable ambience for visitors and employees alike.

Clinics and hospital waiting rooms and wards, restaurants, reception areas, hotels, conference rooms, places of worship all need specialized attention. Psychology and color theory play important roles along with artistic considerations.

We at ConservArt believe that we only gets one chance to make a good first impression and it is important to thoughtfully reflect the right image, rather than unintentionally leave it to chance.

ConservArt also provides framing for diplomas, awards, sales incentives and promotions.
